It Can Wait: Texting While Driving

Law Offices of Gary Green has always been proud to involve itself in community causes that aim to increase awareness and promote public safety, and our commitment to the campaign to end texting and driving is no exception.

The statistics are in, and it’s clear that texting and driving don’t mix. In our daily lives, texting may prove to be an convenient and efficient mode of communication, but doing so while behind the wheel is an undeniable danger whose consequences have wreaked havoc and heartbreak on thousands of lives already.

Not convinced? Take a look at the sobering statistics:

  • In 2011, at least 23% of auto collisions involved cell phones. That’s 1.3 million crashes.
  • Text messaging makes a crash up to 23 times more likely.
  • Sending or receiving a text takes a driver’s eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent – at 55 mph – of driving the length of an entire football field, blind.

Law Offices of Gary Green is committed to increasing public awareness about the devastating effects of distracted driving, and we think that “From One Second to the Next,” a short documentary by Werner Herzog, is a great place to start. Herzog teamed up with AT&T to make the film, which looks at four accidents involving texting while driving and they lives they changed forever. Watch the film here, and check out It Can Wait for more community resources and to take the pledge to do your part to end distracted driving.
